In August of 2013, the County of Burlington purchased the historic Langstaff Mansion, the previous home of the Mount Holly Library, with the intention of turning the building into the first general history museum in the county. All board members of the library remained to support the new initiative, as a kind of non-profit Friends group. We renamed ourselves the Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences Association and set about the tasks of planning, raising funds, sponsoring programs, exhibits, conservation efforts, decorating and providing refreshments for lectures. To further these ends, we’ve raised over $11,000 from fundraisers, grants and book sales. With funds from a grant provided by the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New Jersey, we arranged and sponsored a year-long series of history programs on colonial life. Most currently, we are maintaining a monthly lecture series on various historic and scientific subjects at community locations. We are always looking for new members and volunteers, and greatly appreciate donations. If you are interested in making new friends and working with others on history and science related projects, contact the association at info@bclhnsassoc.org.
